Event Details

Bridge Live Arts presents Embodying Shared Leadership, a movement workshop that explores various ways shared leadership can be practiced and embodied. The workshop stems from an ongoing project between artists and administrators Rebecca Fitton, Cherie Hill, and Hope Mohr.

Embodying Shared Leadership is open to anyone interested in exploring diverse shared leadership models, including artists, educators, administrators, and activists. Participants will engage in movement, but previous dance experience is not required. The workshop focuses on the wisdom of the body with activities that can help reveal patterns and behaviors in leadership from an embodied perspective, giving an alternative viewpoint regarding relationships, communication, and diverse leadership styles.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement, be prepared to dance barefoot or with socks that grip, and bring a water bottle, notebook, and writing utensil to journal and take notes.

This workshop is part of the Dancing Distributed Leadership project, a collaborative dance project between Rebecca Fitton, Cherie Hill, and Hope Mohr,  investigating how commitments to equity and shared power translate into the studio and onto the stage.

ABOUT Dancing Distributed Leadership

The Dancing Distributed Leadership project explores shared leadership through choreography, performance, and community engagement. The work explores balancing individual voice, deep listening, collective authorship, and an embodied study of different experiences. Public sharing includes live and virtual evening-length performances paired with audience dialogues; public conversation and movement workshops on shared leadership in dance; open rehearsals; writings; and resources.

The project is choreographed and led by an intergenerational, inter-disabled, multi-racial team composed of current and past B.L.A. leaders with diverse experiences and perspectives. Rebecca Fitton is a disabled improvisational dance-maker, audio describer, and B.L.A.’s newest Co-Director; Cherie Hill is a choreographer who creates works inspired by the African Diaspora, nature, and feminism (B.LA. Co-Director since 2020); and Hope Mohr, is a choreographer working across dance, drawing, and language, who transitioned out of Co-Directorship in early 2023, and is now a B.L.A. Affiliate Artist. Each bring their own aesthetic interests and choreographic processes to this shared creation.
